President Urges Rapid Expansion of Solar Power Plants in Iran

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the strategic importance of solar energy and called for the acceleration of solar power plant construction, saying his administration is determined to remove all barriers to the development of renewable energy.
Speaking at an event held on Saturday for the inauguration of a 250-megawatt solar power plant, Pezeshkian said the administration is ready to address any obstacles hindering the rapid development of solar projects and to create a more favorable environment for private sector participation in the renewable energy sector.
He emphasized that ensuring adequate electricity supply is among the administration’s top priorities, adding, “We must proceed in a way that no factory will face power shortages next summer. This is at the top of the administration’s agenda.”
The president stated that the expansion of solar energy not only helps address power shortages but also represents a major step toward environmental protection by significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Pezeshkian further stressed the need to focus on solar development in southern Iran, particularly along the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, noting that the administration’s broad development plans for these coastal regions --especially the need for desalination facilities-- make solar projects there even more crucial for sustainable regional growth./tasnim
