In comments at a meeting with Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji, held in Tehran on Tuesday, President Pezeshkian emphasized that expediting the implementation of the railroad project by the Iraqi government would not only strengthen trade, economic, and cultural relations between the two nations but also foster broader regional connectivity and bolster economic integration.

Expressing satisfaction with the current level of relations between Iran and Iraq, the president noted that continued expansion of ties could deepen cooperation in security, economic, scientific, and cultural fields—not only bilaterally but also in relations with other Islamic countries.

Pezeshkian also highlighted the importance of consistent diplomatic exchanges and reciprocal visits between officials of both nations, stating that such engagement would enhance mutual understanding and promote a shared perspective on bilateral, regional, and international matters.

He further stressed the necessity of unity among Islamic nations, asserting that such solidarity would thwart the schemes of the US and the Zionist regime against the people of the region.

President Pezeshkian described the rail network linkage as one of the most significant joint undertakings between Iran and Iraq, noting that completion of the project and the establishment of joint free trade zones would improve regional security and drive economic growth.

From a broader standpoint, Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s view of all Iraqis, including those in the Kurdistan Region, as brothers regardless of ethnic or religious differences. He emphasized that the strength and dignity of the Islamic community lie in nurturing fraternal bonds and avoiding internal divisions provoked by external adversaries.

The Iraqi official, for his part, expressed his pleasure at meeting with the Iranian president, stating that the security of Iran and Iraq is inseparable. He reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to the security treaty between the two nations and emphasized that the borders shared by Iran and Iraq should remain among the safest in the region.

Al-Araji described the rail network linkage as a strategic initiative that would advance economic and political convergence between the two countries, assuring that the Iraqi government fully supports the project. He added that a historic opportunity now exists to establish security cooperation among regional nations, paving the way for broader economic and political engagement./tasnim
