Iranian VP in Russia for SCO Meeting
Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref arrived in Moscow on Monday to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Council of Heads of Government summit.
Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Moscow, Aref described the SCO as one of the largest regional organizations, noting that its member states represent a population of more than 3.4 billion people.
He said the ten SCO members share extensive cultural, civilizational, and historical affinities that make the organization a strong platform for expanding cooperation, meeting shared needs, and facilitating regional interaction.
Aref added that since Iran became a full member of the SCO two years ago, the country has engaged in substantial exchanges and interactions within the organization. He also expressed hope that these cooperative efforts would continue to advance and enable Iran to benefit from its membership in ways that support national interests, regional countries, and broader peace, stability, and friendship among nations.
The Iranian vice president is scheduled to address the summit and meet with several leaders and officials from member states to discuss the expansion of economic, energy, and transit cooperation.
The event’s main agenda data-x-items include increasing the use of national currencies in trade, developing joint energy and transportation projects, and strengthening regional cooperation./tasnim
