Iran Reaffirms Support for Palestinians on Solidarity Day
President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a letter to the United Nations marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, reaffirmed Iran’s unwavering support for Palestinian aspirations and condemned Israeli crimes.
In his message, Pezeshkian condemned Israeli occupation and aggression, highlighted the failures of international organizations to protect Palestinians, and called on the global community to uphold the rights and self-determination of the Palestinian people.
The following is the full text of the letter:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
29 November marks the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, a day emblematic of the world’s solidarity with the courage and steadfastness, and with the quest for liberty and the pursuit of justice, of a people who for several decades have stood firm with empty hands.
For this reason, I wish, on behalf of the nation and Government of my country, to declare the unequivocal support of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the Palestinian people in furtherance of the realization of their aspirations, Pezeshkian wrote.
This day recalls eight decades of the occupation of Palestinian lands by the usurping Israeli regime, the continuous pain and suffering of the Palestinian people, and the persistence of oppression and injustice inflicted upon that oppressed nation.
This year, we commemorate this day under circumstances in which the atrocities committed by that regime against the Palestinian people and the inhabitants of Gaza unfolded before the very eyes of the world’s public, while the governments that claim to champion human rights willfully shut their eyes to all these crimes.
29 November is a day of solidarity with a nation that, owing to the denial of its right to self-determination for the establishment of the State of Palestine, continues to engage in its legitimate struggle to attain this noble and human objective.
This day recalls the imperative moral and legal duty of the governments and peoples of the world to support and defend the rights of the Palestinian people.
Moreover, it clearly demonstrates the inability of international organizations to confront the Israeli regime as the gravest threat to peace and security within the international community.
Accordingly, the time has now come for States and governments, aligned with the will of global public opinion, to undertake serious and effective measures to halt the aggressions committed against the Palestinian people.
Underscoring the continuation of its comprehensive support for the cause of the oppressed Palestinian people and paying tribute to the steadfastness and legitimate resistance of Palestinian youth against occupation and aggression, the Islamic Republic of Iran calls upon the international community to confront the actions of the Israeli regime which, manifestly, run counter to international law as well as to the provisions of numerous international resolutions.
The Islamic Republic of Iran holds that the only principled solution to the question of Palestine lies in bringing an end to the organized occupation of the historic homeland of the Palestinian nation, ensuring the return of Palestinian refugees, and enabling them to exercise their right to self-determination.
In this regard, the initiative of the Islamic Republic of Iran—grounded in the return of refugees and the holding of a referendum among the indigenous people of Palestine, including Muslims, Christians, and Jews, in accordance with democratic principles and international law—has been formally registered with the United Nations and constitutes an appropriate alternative to prior failed proposals.
This initiative seeks to resolve the “Question of Palestine” from a legal standpoint, on the basis of the exercise of the right to self-determination and the right of return of all Palestinian refugees to their ancestral homeland.
In declaring my full solidarity with the Palestinian people, I once again salute the valiant resistance and heroic defense of the noble and free-spirited people and youth of Palestine in the face of the Zionist regime’s aggressions, and I pray to the Almighty for their victory and for the liberation of Palestine, Pezeshkian concluded.
May the peace, mercy, and blessings of God be bestowed upon you./tasnim
