The head of Iran Fisheries Organization said Wednesday that the value of fishery exports from the country had reached $450 million in the seven months to October 22, up nearly 30% compared with the same period last year.

Hamzeh Rostampour added that the volume of exports stood at 243,000 metric tons (mt) over the April–October period.

He noted that Iran had exported roughly $700 million worth of fishery products in the calendar year to March, and that both output and exports have continued to rise in the current year.

According to Rostampour, total domestic fishery production is expected to hit 1.5 million mt in the calendar year to March 2026.

Shrimp production, he said, will reach 60,000 metric tons this year, up from 45,000 metric tons last year, with more than 80% of shrimp output exported to European and regional markets.

Iran aims to boost annual fishery production to 1.8 million mt by 2030, viewing the sector as a vital source of export revenue and local economic development.

The expansion of fisheries in Iran in recent years has also played a role in supporting the impoverished southern regions of the country.

Marine fish, commercial fish feed, and shrimp are among Iran’s key export products, while the country remains a major global supplier of caviar./isna
