Iranian, Cypriot foreign ministers discuss bilateral ties, regional developments
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a telephone conversation with his Cypriot counterprat, Constantinos Kombos, has discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.
During the phone talk, Araghchi pointed to Iran’s principled approach to respecting the national sovereignty of all countries, including Cyprus, recalling the necessity of respecting the fundamentals of the United Nations Charter, especially national sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries.
Araghchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran absolutely rejects and considers any interventionist stance regarding its territorial integrity as unacceptable.
Cypriot Foreign Minister Kombos, for his part, emphasized the importance of his country's long-standing relations with Iran and stated that Cyprus always considers itself bound to respect the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, including Iran.
Referring to the start of Cyprus’s rotating presidency of the EU Council from the beginning of 2026, he expressed hope that this country could play a positive role in advancing relations between the bloc and Iran.
