Iran’s Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Damirchilu, visited the Astara border to review traffic conditions and held separate meetings with officials from both countries.

During the visit, discussions were held on expediting and easing the transit of trucks, and agreements were reached to increase traffic volume and reduce waiting times for export cargo.

Damirchilu, who traveled to the city of Astara and met with relevant authorities, stressed the need for closer coordination to boost truck crossings, particularly for perishable commodities.

He familiarized himself with the current conditions of truck traffic and underscored the importance of addressing existing bottlenecks.

Statistics show a sharp rise in the number of trucks seeking to cross this strategic border during colder months, coinciding with the peak season for Iran’s agricultural exports and the start of kiwi exports.

Due to its connectivity, the port city of Astara receives trucks from across Iran as well as shipments destined for or originating from the Republic of Azerbaijan and Russia./irna
