Pakistan is pursuing a good course in its relations with Tehran, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said on Saturday, citing steady engagement and close contacts with senior Iranian officials over the past year.

Speaking at a year-end press briefing, Dar said Islamabad had maintained regular communication with Iran’s leadership, including ongoing contacts between the heads of state and the foreign ministers of the two neighboring countries.

He said that Islamabad is following a good trajectory in its relations with Tehran, while expressing satisfaction with significant growth in bilateral ties over the past year.

Dar also referred to recent regional developments, saying Pakistan had strongly condemned US-Israeli aggressions against the Islamic Republic of Iran in June, and had made efforts at the regional and international levels to help ease tensions.

He said Islamabad’s position on regional conflicts was clear, adding that Pakistan would only play a role in encouraging peace in Gaza but would not seek to impose peace.

The Pakistani foreign minister also rejected any suggestion that Pakistan would deploy troops to Gaza to disarm the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, saying such a move was not Pakistan’s responsibility.

He stressed that Islamabad remained firm in its opposition to any involvement of that nature./irna
