Araghchi urges Yemeni factions to preserve unity, avoid division

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi urged Yemen’s political parties and groups to engage in dialogue to prevent the country’s weakening and fragmentation, stressing the need to preserve Yemen’s territorial integrity.

Araghchi made the remarks during a telephone call on Sunday with Yemen’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulwahid Abu Ras as the two discussed the latest developments in the Arab country.

Araghchi praised Yemenis’ support for Palestinians and their resistance to Israeli actions, while calling on all Yemeni factions to pursue interaction and talks to thwart plots hatched by enemies of the region to destabilize and divide the country.

Abu Ras briefed Araghchi on recent developments in southern Yemen, warning that actions by Yemen’s adversaries, designed to further undermine security in the region, were complicating the situation.

Araghchi also welcomed a recent agreement between Yemeni parties and Saudi Arabia on a prisoner exchange, saying Yemen’s crisis could be resolved through a complete lifting of the blockade, implementation of remaining elements of the agreed roadmap, and intra-Yemeni talks to form an inclusive government while safeguarding the country’s unity./irna
