Eslami Slams IAEA Silence on Attacks on Iran’s Nuclear Sites, Cites US Pressure

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran lambasted the International Atomic Energy Agency for failing to condemn US and Israeli military attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, saying the agency refrains from doing so out of fear of Washington.

Addressing an event after inaugurating Iran’s largest plasma-stimulated wound healing clinic in Isfahan on Thursday, Mohammad Eslami referred to the recent US National Security Strategy document, which he said explicitly states that previous US administrations had made a mistake by pursuing their interests through international organizations.

Washington now intends to advance its interests through military force and economic power rather than adhering to international bodies, the AEOI chief added, noting that such an approach amounts to the collapse of the United Nations Charter.

Eslami said that when Iran describes attacks on nuclear facilities registered with the IAEA as illegal and inhumane and calls for their condemnation, the UN nuclear agency’s refusal to do so out of fear of the US reflects domination over the international system.

Pointing to efforts by Iran’s adversaries to halt the country’s nuclear progress, the AEOI head said hostile actions against Iran’s nuclear facilities began around 30 years ago in the form of industrial sabotage. He added that since then, enemies have first sought to block anyone intending to cooperate with Iran in advanced technologies and, when unsuccessful, have resorted to sabotage, espionage, the assassination of scientists, and ultimately even plans for missile bombardment of Iran’s sites.

Denouncing the US president’s move to award medals of bravery to pilots who had trained for 22 years to bomb Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, Eslami added that the world’s most powerful bomb was also used in the hope of destroying Iran’s nuclear industry.

Despite all these hostile attempts, and by God’s grace, Iran’s nuclear sector continues to move forward at the frontiers of science, Eslami stated.

On June 13, the Zionist regime launched an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran, targeting military, nuclear, and residential areas for 12 consecutive days. The United States later escalated the conflict by striking three of Iran’s nuclear sites in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan on June 22.

Iran’s Armed Forces delivered an immediate and forceful response. The IRGC Aerospace Force carried out 22 waves of retaliatory missile strikes under Operation True Promise III, inflicting significant damage and heavy losses on cities across the occupied territories.

In retaliation for the US attacks, Iranian forces also targeted al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar —the largest American military installation in West Asia— with a barrage of missiles.

The confrontation came to an end on June 24, when a ceasefire was enforced./tasnim
