Time for Iran-US talks inappropriate due to Washington’s approach: FM Araghchi
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says that while Tehran remains ready for talks with Washington, the current US policies make it an unsuitable time for negotiations.
Speaking to reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Araghchi emphasized that Iran has never abandoned the negotiating table and remains prepared for discussions based on mutual interests and respect, but the US administration currently does not adopt such an approach.
The minister also addressed his upcoming visit to Lebanon, highlighting plans to expand bilateral relations. The Iranian government aims to strengthen ties with all Lebanese institutions and the government. This objective is shared on both sides, he said.
Araghchi added that an economic delegation will accompany him to explore trade and commercial opportunities, expressing hope for robust future cooperation.
On domestic developments, the minister underscored that internal issues are solely the concern of the Iranian people. Responding to international commentary on domestic protests, he said, no foreign government has any jurisdiction over Iran’s internal affairs. The Iranian authorities are optimistic that government and citizens will resolve any outstanding matters peacefully.
He further referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ economic diplomacy initiatives, describing the department in charge of this issue as the ministry’s most active branch. Officials are actively promoting trade and economic cooperation, particularly with neighboring countries. The ministry’s provincial diplomacy program aims to map regional capacities and connect them with neighboring markets, he explained.
Araghchi emphasized Iran’s untapped economic potential domestically and regionally. He reaffirmed that, alongside economic outreach, the ministry continues efforts to remove sanctions whenever opportunities arise, in a manner that preserves national dignity./irna
