Qalibaf Likens Recent Violent Riots in Iran to Coup Attempt
The recent violent riots in Iran amounted to a quasi-coup and a large-scale terrorist operation aimed at completing the enemies’ failed war against the Iranian nation, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said.
The remarks were made during a telephone conversation between Qalibaf and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Numan Kurtulmus on Thursday, in which the two sides reviewed the latest developments in parliamentary ties and regional issues and stressed the need to expand political and economic cooperation and strengthen bilateral interactions.
Qalibaf expressed appreciation for the clear and firm positions adopted by Turkey’s president, foreign minister, and parliament in support of the Iranian government and nation. He said the incidents that unfolded over two to three days in Iran constituted a wide-ranging terrorist operation, similar in nature to Daesh (ISIS or ISIL) crimes but carried out with even greater brutality.
Referring to the unrest as a quasi-coup and a terrorist act, the Iranian parliament speaker said the developments were the final link in the 12-day war that was waged against the Iranian nation in June 2025. He added that the Israeli regime and the United States had openly supported terrorists who killed Iranian civilians and, in some cases, members of the country’s law enforcement and security forces, in an effort to compensate for their previous defeat.
Qalibaf noted that thanks to the vigilance of security and law enforcement forces and the presence of the people, calm has now been restored across all Iranian cities. He also warned that the Israeli regime is pursuing a strategy aimed at weakening all Islamic countries and ultimately disintegrating them.
For his part, Kurtulmus expressed regret and condolences over the deaths of hundreds of Iranians during the recent terrorist operations. He stressed that Iran’s security and prosperity are inseparable from Turkey’s security and prosperity, saying that Iran’s pain is Turkey’s pain.
Kurtulmus also endorsed Qalibaf’s assessment of the Israeli regime, saying its main power lies in undermining unity among Islamic countries and pushing them toward fragmentation.
Referring to recent remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Turkish parliament speaker expressed hope that, with the measures taken, the Iranian nation and government will continue to live in peace and tranquility./tasnim
