Pakistan invited to attend US-Iran talks in Turkiye: Foreign Ministry
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan has confirmed that Islamabad has been invited to participate in talks between Iran and the US, which are set to take place in Istanbul, Turkiye, later this week.
“Pakistan has received the invitation for the upcoming talks between Iran and the United States,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said, according to Pakistani daily Dawn on Tuesday.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is expected to attend the meeting.
A diplomatic source said that Pakistan’s involvement in the meeting is particularly significant for reducing tensions, as Islamabad has informally worked to facilitate the groundwork for the discussions.
US President Donald Trump recently pledged to engage the Islamic Republic in negotiations after threatening the country with military action. “We have talks going on with Iran, we’ll see how it all works out,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Monday.
“I’d like to see a deal negotiated,” Trump said, adding, “Right now, we’re talking to them, we’re talking to Iran, and if we could work something out, that’d be great.”/irna
