In a meeting with Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, held in Tehran on Tuesday, Major General Mousavi described Iran and Armenia as longstanding neighbors with deep historical ties.

He said cooperation among regional countries contributes to regional security and stability, and reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to expand military cooperation with Armenia’s armed forces.

The Iranian commander characterized the presence of extra-regional powers as contrary to the interests of regional nations and a source of instability and insecurity.

The world is transitioning away from a unipolar order and unilateralism, the top general stated, adding that the United States is unwilling to accept this shift and is attempting to impose its dominance through illegitimate and unlawful measures, despite the inevitability of moving beyond a unipolar system.

Referring to the 12-day war imposed by the Zionist regime and the US on Iran in June 2025, General Mousavi said that despite suffering damage and the martyrdom of brave commanders, dedicated scientists, and innocent civilians, Iran’s Armed Forces forced the enemy to plead for a ceasefire.

The commander added that Iran has never initiated a war and had previously sought to prevent escalation and reduce casualties, but said US actions had led to a change in approach. He warned that if a mistake is made again, Iran would impose heavy losses on the enemy.

Touching on developments in the South Caucasus, the Chief of Staff said Iran is sincerely pleased with the peace process between Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia.

For his part, Papikyan said that security and peace in the region benefit all regional states and that Armenia supports and welcomes the peace process.

He described Iran and Armenia as two naturally committed neighbors and said the stability and inviolability of their shared borders are of vital importance.

Both sides emphasized the need to expand bilateral cooperation in various defense fields, including technical and training sectors./tasnim
