No Final Decision on Deal with US: Iranian Spokesman
Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei said that no final decision has been reached regarding a possible agreement with the US, stressing that ongoing reports about a deal remain “speculation.”
In remarks on Thursday night, Baqaei said that “the issues being raised about an agreement are speculation and nothing has been finalized.”
“So far, Iran has not reached a final conclusion on the agreement,” he said, noting that “whenever we reach a conclusion that the text of the understanding is in the interest of the Iranian nation, we will announce it.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson further stated that “the status of negotiations was clear to us from the beginning and a major part of the text had been finalized, but the Americans kept changing their positions.”
“Iran has proven that it does not compromise on what it defines as its red lines,” he underlined.
The spokesman also noted that “Qatar and Pakistan are active as mediators,” adding that US actions are affecting the diplomatic process.
According to Baqaei, “the Americans are trying to suggest that the Islamic Republic has agreed to a deal under pressure, while we will never retreat from our red lines.”
In another remark, Baqaei stated that “the Strait of Hormuz remains closed due to illegal US actions.”/tasnim
