Iran's proposal to host first BRICS grain exchange meeting reviewed at 16th BRICS summit
The Director General of the Shanghai Cooperation and BRICS Office at Iran's Foreign Ministry announced that at the 16th meeting of BRICS agriculture ministers in India, Iran's proposals to host the first BRICS grain exchange working group meeting and to use national currencies and barter mechanisms in grain exchange transactions were reviewed.
Kiyaei, Director General of the SCO and BRICS Office at the Foreign Ministry, stated that at the 16th meeting of BRICS agriculture ministers in India, discussions were held on developing agricultural cooperation, exchanging knowledge and modern technologies, utilizing research and scientific achievements, strengthening food security and safety, expressing concern over the effects of unilateral coercive measures on global food security, and expanding cooperation with specialized international organizations.
He added that at the end of the meeting, a joint statement was issued covering important and diverse topics in the fields of agriculture, food security, and multilateral cooperation. The statement addressed the establishment of a BRICS grain exchange, the Islamic Republic of Iran's proposal to host the first meeting of the BRICS grain exchange working group, the development of scientific and research cooperation among research institutions of member states centered on the "BRICS Agricultural Research Platform," the proposal to use national currencies and barter mechanisms in grain exchange transactions among member states, and expressed concern over resorting to unilateral coercive measures and their detrimental impact on food security./isna
