FM Araghchi hopes Iran-US MoU opens new chapter in Tehran-Tokyo ties
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed hope that the implementation of the Iran-US memorandum of understanding would mark the beginning of a new phase of economic cooperation and investment between Iran and Japan.
During a phone conversation with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi on Monday, Araghchi outlined the MoU’s key clauses and emphasized that its implementation could pave the way for stronger bilateral economic ties and expanded investment opportunities between Tehran and Tokyo.
According to Iran’s Foreign Ministry, the two top diplomats reviewed the provisions and latest developments related to the MoU, mediated by Pakistan.
Motegi welcomed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, describing it as an important step toward resolving regional crises. He also stressed the importance of the full and precise implementation of its provisions.
The two sides further underlined the need for continued close consultations and exchanges regarding future cooperation, particularly on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran and the United States launched talks aimed at securing a permanent end to the conflict following the ceasefire announced on April 8, with Pakistan serving as mediator. The MoU, based on Iran’s initial 14-point proposal presented at the outset of the ceasefire, has undergone repeated reviews and revisions by both sides over the past 60 days.
Despite continued pressure, ceasefire violations, and shifting positions by Washington, Iran maintained its stance throughout the negotiations. Following the signing of the memorandum, the two countries are expected to engage in intensive talks over the next 60 days in an effort to reach a comprehensive agreement on outstanding issues./irna
