Russia finances 1.2bn euros to electrify trains of northern Iran
EghtesadOnline: Russia provides Iran with a financing package of euros 1.2 billion to electrify trains of northern Iran, Director General for Northern Iran Railway Yusouf Geranpasha said on Saturday.
He told a press conference that a primary MoU to that effect has been signed with Iran Railway Company, reports IRNA.
To electrify Northern Iran railway system, it is necessary to renovate and restore rails, tunnels, increasing resistance of Veresk Bridge and the other connecting bridges.
The MoU envisaged to utilize Iranian domestic industries to carry out the infrastructure plans for electrifying railway.
The locomotives for the project will be built inside Iran by the domestic industry units.
He said that the project will take three years to be completed.
Northern Iran railway is totally 400 kilometers.
