Pakistan approves imports of more electricity from Iran

EghtesadOnline: Pakistan’s highest economic authority has approved the import of more 74 MW of electricity from Iran.

The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, approved the deal, according to Pakistan state media. 

Water and Power Division had moved a summary to the ECC for approval of its contract with Tavanir company of Iran for purchase of 74 MW of electricity, reports IRNA.

According to Pakistan media, however the ECC reduced the proposed tariff of 7.5 to 10 cents per kwh to 6.1 to 9.5 cents per kwh.

Pakistan is already importing electricity through the Taftan area by linking it with Balochistan and now 74 MW will be added to the system. 

Iran has already announced it is ready to increase electricity exports to Pakistan to 3,000 MW.
