Iran FM meets Lebanese newly-elected President
EghtesadOnline: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with the newly-elected President Michel Aoun as part of his visit to Lebanon.
Iran’s senior official headed to Lebanon Monday aiming to meet with the country’s newly-elected president as well as some high-ranking officials to discuss developing and boosting bilateral ties at the political and economic levels, according to ISNA.
Congratulating Aoun on his election, Zarif said resistance of the Lebanese people would lead to the defeat of the terrorist groups in the country.
He underlined that Iran would continue supporting the Lebanese nation and government, adding Lebanon's success in holding the presidential vote after two and a half years of vacuum is a victory for all Lebanese.
Zarif went on to say that both countries and also the most world countries have two main enemies including the Takfiri group and Zionist regime, stating that the issue can be the main reason for two sides ‘unity and cooperation.
He expressed Iran’s satisfaction on the fact that that the presidential election in Lebanon was held without any foreign interference.
According to NNA, Zarif traveled to Lebanon heading a delegation of 45 economic and political figures.He is also scheduled to meet with Speaker Nabih Berri, caretaker Prime Minister Tammam Salam, PM-designate Saad Hariri and a number of officials and spiritual leaders.
