Rafsanjani: Expectations from Culture Ministry high

EghtesadOnline: Chairman of Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Sunday that there are various institutes in the country in charge of cultural affairs, which are not accountable for cultural issues despite the huge sums they receive.

In a meeting with Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Reza Salehi-Amiri on Sunday, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said this is while Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry is usually reprimanded despite its low budget and expectations from it are high, IRNA reported.

Underlining significance of culture and guidance in the society, the Ayatollah said the ministry was from the beginning among the important and sensitive ministries as it deals with culture and Islamic and national values.

The ministry has always come under fire for its diversified attitudes, Rafsanjani said, adding that the reason for that was the nature of the ministry which is engaged with culture.

Referring to music and film as one of the manifestations, he said that while the other cultural and propagation institutes such as Islamic 
Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) airs many films and music programs, but they are not subject to criticism and sensitivity towards them is low.

But the ministry's productions have attracted a lot of criticism so far that the minister himself is censured, he said. 

At the beginning of the meeting, culture minister presented a report on the ministry's performance and discussed his views regarding the programs and objectives of the ministry.
