Tehran welcomes deepening ties with Islamabad: Rouhani

EghtesadOnline: Stating that Iran is an exceptional opportunity for developing and deepening ties with neighboring and Muslim countries, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said: “Iran and Pakistan have ample opportunities to develop relations in economic, political and cultural fields that should be tapped to meet the will of two nations”.

In the phone conversation that was initiated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday, President Rouhani said: “Tehran welcomes developing ties with Islamabad”.

“I hope in the coming meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), which is going to be held in Pakistan, we witness positive development, closer relations among member countries and also more cooperation in the regional organization,” Rouhani continued.

Appreciating the Pakistani PM’s condolences over Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s passing away, President Rouhani said: “he was a great figure and an important factor in establishing closer ties between the two countries and we are trying to maintain the friendly ties”.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister of Pakistan congratulated the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution to the Iranian nation and government and said: “developing ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the priorities of Pakistan’s foreign policy”.

According to ISNA, Nawaz Sharif also described Iran as a friend and brother nation and said: “we are trying to further deepen relations between the two countries”.

He also invited Rouhani to attend the 13th ECO meeting and said that Iran’s presence in the meeting was very important for promoting the organization.

Nawaz Sharif also expressed condolences over Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani’s passing away and said that he had played a great role in developing ties between the two countries.
