Iran finishes with 3 bronze medals in opening day of Greco-Roman World Championships

EghtesadOnline: Iran has finished the opening day of the Senior Greco-Roman World Championships in Paris with 3 bronze medals.

By winning 24 points, Iran's national team placed third after Russia (30 points) and Hungary (27 points) at the end of the first four games of the Senior Greco-Roman World Championships.

On Monday, in the 71kg weight category, Mohamad Ali Geraei came back from behind to defeat world No. 2 Daniel Cataraga from Moldova 10-8 in the bronze medal match.

Saeid Abdvali won Iran’s second bronze medal in the 75kg weigh category after defeating Kazbak Keliov of Belarus 8-0.

The final bronze medal for Iran was won by Hossein Nouri. The Iranian was defeated by the Olympic bronze medalist Denis Kudla from Germany in the semi-finals. His bronze medal game in the 85kg weight category was against Abbasov from Azerbaijan which the Iranian won 4-0. 

Paris is hosting the 46th edition of the World Championships from August 21-26. It is only the second time that France organizes this competition, 30 years after an edition that took place in Clermont-Ferrand. The world's best wrestlers from Russia, Iran, Cuba, the United States, Japan, Georgia and Uzbekistan compete in two distinct categories: the Greco-Roman and Free fight.
