Hormuz Peace Plan Expounded
EghtesadOnline: Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif explained the Hormuz Peace Endeavor, which had been proposed by President Hassan Rouhani to help defuse tensions in the region.
In an address to the Doha Forum on Sunday, Zarif said the initiative addresses one of the main requisites of the volatile region, namely security, which is essential for reestablishing stability and peaceful coexistence in the Middle East, ISNA reported.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly in September, Rouhani put forward the Hormuz peace proposal aimed at restoring peace, stability and prosperity to the Persian Gulf.
The plan explores various avenues of cooperation, including security of energy supply, freedom of navigation and free transfer of oil and other commodities to and from the Strait of Hormuz and beyond, based on the principles of mutual respect, non-aggression and non-interference, according to Financial Tribune.
Doha Forum was established in 2000 as a global platform for dialogue on critical challenges facing the world. It brings together foreign policy leaders to set up innovative and action-driven networks.
