‘Shared Values’ Cornerstone of Iran-Afghan Ties
EghtesadOnline: The new Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan set a positive tone for his term in office during a meeting with Afghan Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, stressing that their bilateral ties are founded on common values.
In a meeting in Kabul on Tuesday, Bahador Aminian agreed with Abdullah that "shared values" and "historical and cultural bonds" are the cornerstone of Iran-Afghan relations, IRNA reported.
Welcoming Aminian to Kabul, the Afghan chief executive said he considers Iran “a close friend and an ally”, thanking Tehran for its collaborations with Afghanistan.
Aminian and Abdullah discussed ways of advancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening relations between the neighboring states, apart from conferring about the recent disputed presidential election in Afghanistan, according to Financial Tribune.
The new envoy had previously served as envoy to Romania, head of the Foreign Ministry's International Relations Faculty and head of the Foreign Policy Committee of Expediency Council.
Aminian had presented his credentials to Afghan acting foreign minister, Idrees Zaman, on Dec. 14.
