Zarif Attending Munich Security Confab
EghtesadOnline: Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is in Germany to attend the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 14-16.
He met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the sidelines of the event and discussed issues of mutual interest, Financial Tribune reported.
Zarif also held talks with his Canadian counterpart, Francois-Philippe Champagne, ISNA reported.
The Munich conference is the largest global gathering on security and foreign policy issues, which brings together over 500 world leaders and diplomats to discuss the most pressing security concerns.
This year's theme is "westlessness" that organizers say points to continued unease about the identity and purpose of the West.
The wars in Libya and Yemen, and other tensions in the Middle East as well as India's lockdown of Kashmir are among the main topics of discussion this year.
Iran is also likely to be a focal point following the US assassination of Iranian military commander, Major General Qasem Soleimani, in Baghdad in January, which sparked international outrage and risked triggering a major military confrontation.
