Talking to reporters late Sunday, he also said that the Mosul liberation operation will take the Daesh terrorists by surprise.

He said Iraq will enter a new historical phase after liberation of its territories from the terrorist Daesh group and stressed that the country owes the victory to every single one of Iraqi people, according to IRNA.

Pointing to the situation of Daesh in Iraq two years ago, the prime minister said then Iraq fought Daesh while the terrorist group was posting threats to Baghdad while now it is being threatened by Baghdad in Mosul and is close to be defeated.

Noting that only Iraqi ground forces will be present in Mosul offensive, al-Abadi stressed that no foreign forces are participating in the operation.

Battle for liberation of the city of Mosul in the northern Iraq province of Nineveh from the terrorist Daesh group started on Monday.

According to IRNA, tens of battalions belonging to Iraqi ground forces as well as the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation.
