Zarif confers with Lebanese speaker on regional developments
EghtesadOnline: Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif conferred with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Tuesday on issues of mutual interest as well as the latest regional developments.
Zarif arrived in the Lebanese capital at the head of a politico-economic delegation on Monday for talks with top-ranking Lebanese officials, IRNA reported.
The visit comes a week after Michel Aoun was elected the Lebanese president, putting an end to a political stand-off that left the post empty for more than two years.
During his meeting with the Lebanese parliament speaker, the foreign minister explored ways for expansion of ties with Beirut in all areas in the new era after election of President Aoun.
Zarif met with President Michel Aoun on Monday to be the first foreign minister to meet with the Lebanese president after taking office for the new term.
After his two-day visit to Lebanon, the foreign minister will begin his tour of East European states which will take him to Romania, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
