Iran joins Paris Agreement on climate changes

EghtesadOnline: Iran's parliament ratified the Paris Agreement on climate changes on Sunday paving the way for the Islamic Republic to join the global effort on curbing emissions and addressing climatic changes.

Masoumeh Ebtekar, Vice President and Head of Department of the Environmental (DoE) briefed parliament members today on the need for Iran to approve the global deal.

One-hundred and 49 representatives, out of 206 present, voted in favor of the Paris Agreement while six others voted against and eight more abstained, IRNA reported. 

The Paris Agreement was adopted on 12 December 2015 at the twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Paris from 30 November to 13 December 2015.

The agreement entered into force on 4 Nov 2016.

More than 190 signatories of the global deal have agreed accordingly to help address the global climate changes and the unwanted effects caused by these changes by their financial and technological support.
