Iran, Pakistan vow to boost cooperation on climate change

EghtesadOnline: Iran and Pakistan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation on the issues of climate change.

The understanding reached during a meeting between Masoumeh Ebtekar, head of Iran's Department of the Environmen (DoE) and her Pakistani counterpart Zahid Hamid during the Conference of the Parties (COP-22) in Morocco.

According to IRNA, Zahid Hamid informed the Iranian official about some of the major policy initiatives taken by Pakistan government to address the climate change issues.

He said the COP-22 is a great opportunity to make the world aware of effects of climate change on Pakistan, Pakistani culture and tourism. 

The 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP-22) began on Nov 7 and will continue till Nov 18, 2016 in Marrakech City of Morocco.

The COP to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the first such meeting since the historic adoption of the Paris Agreement at COP-21 in December 2015.
