President Rouhani wraps up 2-day visit to Moscow
EghtesadOnline: President Hassan Rouhani wrapped up his 2-day visit to Russia and left Moscow for Tehran on Tuesday evening.
Prior to leaving Moscow, President Rouhani told reporters that Iran and Russia have ‘great potential and the necessary political will’ to develop cooperation and bilateral relations ‘have entered into a new phase’.
According to IRNA, the president said Russia is one of the members of 5+1 countries and has helped Iran a lot in inplementation of the nuclera deal and using peaceful nuclear technology.
Stressing that relations with Russia is important for Iran on international and regional levels, the president said, “Terrorism is a big threat for the region these days and the two countries have had good cooperation in fighting terrorism and securing regional peace and settlement of problems in Iraq and Syria.
Rouhani said part of his negotiations with President Putin was on Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, and even security in Central Asia and Caucasus.
He said transit of goods is also an important issue and the two countries try to to join the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman to the East and Europe with a north-south corridor through Iran.
On bilateral relations, the president said the two countries have good potential for development of ties and they have entered into a new phase in this regard. Long-term huge projects of oil and gas are either underway or being didcussed between the two countries.
On railways , President Rouhani said the two countries have statrted new cooperation to electrify Iran’s railways and purchase locomotives. The two sides have agreed on buying 6,000 cargo rail cars of which 1,100 have been purchased and the rest will be manufactured in Iran.
