Iran Tech City to Launch Electronic ID First

EghtesadOnline: Bank Saderat and MTN-Irancell — the second largest Iranian mobile operator — unveiled new services based on Near Field Communication (NFC) in the northern port city of Bandar Anzali on the Caspian Sea coast.

News ID: 775284

It follows the launch of Iran’s first ‘smart city’ at Anzali Free Trade-Industrial Zone on March 30, ICTNA reported.

The services include Mobile-ID in addition to NFC payment services.

Mobile-ID is a service that allows a client to use a mobile phone as a form of secure electronic ID. Like ID cards, it can be used for accessing secure e-services and digitally signing documents, but has the advantage of not requiring a card reader, Financial Tribune reported.

NFC payment services also make transactions easier by holding two electronic devices 10 cm apart.

Both services are based on specialized mobile-ID SIM cards which the customer must buy from the mobile phone operator.
