Iran, Canada FMs hold phone call

EghtesadOnline: Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed the upcoming presidential election in Iran with his Canadian counterpart Chrystia Freeland during a phone call.

Mentioning to the requests of Iranian citizens who are Canadian residents, Zarif said: “Iranian expatriates like Iranian people are keen to cast a ballot in the May 19 vote and participate in determining the future of their country”.

Freeland in her part said: Canadian government recognizes the importance of holding the presidential election in Canada is for Iranians. But in the current situation and lack of political relations and inactivity of the respective embassies in Ottawa as well as internal regulations on holding elections for citizens of other countries, a few technical cases should be reviewed and resolved, according to ISNA.

A political delegation from Canada arrived in Tehran to hold a meeting with Iranian foreign ministry officials over the bilateral ties.
