Only 4% of Tehran Commuters Use Rail
EghtesadOnline: Only 4% of all commuters to and from Tehran use rail transportation, the minister of roads and urban development said.
“Some 1.3 million people commute to and from the capital city on a daily basis,” Abbas Akhoundi was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency. “This is a big number,” he said, adding that the huge share of roads in transportation is the reason behind air pollution, high energy consumption and increased road accident casualties. The government of President Hassan Rouhani has considerably boosted efforts to develop railroads, including suburban trains, to reduce the share of roads in transportation, Financial Tribune reported.
