“Iran emphasizes resumption of talks to solve Cypriot dispute. The Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach on Cyprus has since the beginning been based on a principled and fixed stance, supporting its integrity,” Qasemi said.

According to IRNA, he said, “Within the framework, recent and two years’ period of talks were closely monitored with interest and hope for being fruitful as consultative opinions were offered to them at appropriate times, while hearing views of the either sides.”

“A proposal was offered last year for hosting talks in Tehran within the framework and the two sides welcomed it.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said the Islamic Republic of Iran, while appreciating the two-year efforts of the leaders of the two sides, of the UN Chief and of senior officials of the European Union, expressed regret over abortive end of talks in (Cyprus Conference in) Crans Montana.

He said Iran believes that agreements, reached between the two sides in the last two years on various issues under negotiation, have enough capacity for continuation of talks until attaining full agreement and they should not be overlooked.

While recalling responsibility of the two sides, Qasemi said, “The three guarantor countries and the global community are persistently calling for resumption of talks to help peace and stability in the region through continued efforts to attain accord in Cyprus.”

He added that the final solution to the old intricacy should be found based on the internationally distinguished and mutually agreed upon fundamentals and while respecting cultural diversity of the island, guarantee rights of all citizens.

Qasemi noted, “Undoubtedly, creative engagement of all the parties for establishment of a political and security structure in proportion to development in international relations will result in more speedy settlement of the problem.”

The Iranian foreign ministry spokesman once again voiced Iran’s readiness to help and offer consultation and underlined that talks with the win-win criteria will be the best way to solve such problems.
