Iranian FM outlines 4 steps to solving crisis in Yemen
EghtesadOnline: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that four steps must be taken to solve the crisis in Yemen.
"From the first day of the crisis in Yemen, Iran announced that it has a four-step solution: An immediate ceasefire, humanitarian aid, intra-Yemeni talks and an inclusive government," said Zarif in a televised interview on Monday.
"What Saudi Arabia did in Yemen has had no result apart from creating anger towards the kingdom and killing children," he added.
On January 28, separatists backed by the UAE launched an assault in Aden, taking control of a number of sites and military camps run by forces loyal to Yemen's former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi following intense clashes. They swiftly seized the presidential palace in the southern port city, PressTV reported.
Zarif stressed that such foreign-backed fighting is tearing the country apart.
At least 13,600 people have been killed since the onset of Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against Yemen in 2015. Much of the country's infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and factories, has been reduced to rubble due to the war.
The Saudi-led war has also triggered a deadly cholera epidemic across Yemen.
According to the World Health Organization’s latest tally, the cholera outbreak has killed 2,167 people since the end of April 2017 and is suspected to have infected 841,906.
