Head of the judiciary’s Crime Prevention Bureau Alireza Savari told YJC, “The accident-prone area identification app is available as of today, and drivers can install it on their phones to get notified about zones with most car crashes.”

According to Savari, there are 3,430 accident blackspots all around the country, accountable for the majority of driving mishaps; the app will alert drivers 800 meters before reaching the given areas.

All accident-prone areas have been identified with the help of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, Financial Tribune quoted Savari as saying.

Set to be initially released for users of iOS operating systems, the app will be available to owners of Android devices in the near future.

An Indian company developed a similar app named “Watch-Out” in 2016, exploiting real-time data provided by users’ feedbacks.

Road mishaps currently hold the second rank in the leading causes of premature deaths. As per a report published by YJC, 16,201 individuals lost their lives due to traffic accidents in the last fiscal that ended in March, signaling a 1.7% year-on-year increase.
