Tehran Hosts ECO Veterinary Forum
EghtesadOnline: The Economic Cooperation Organization's Veterinary Forum attended by chief veterinary authorities from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran will conclude in Tehran today (Monday).
According to director general of the Specialized Organizations Bureau with Iran Veterinary Organization Bahman Abedi, issues discussed in the three-day event include battling cross-border diseases, establishment of reference laboratories between ECO member states, cooperation in livestock transit, controlling foot-and-mouth disease, peste des petits ruminants and acute bird flu, devising a unified hygiene certificate, production of medicine and vaccines, as well as meat and dairy trade, IRNA reported.
The official added that all ECO members are obliged to abide by the decisions made by the six countries present at the event.

Economic Cooperation Organization, founded in 1985 in Tehran by Iran, Turkey and Pakistan, is the second largest regional organization after the European Union in terms of geography (8 million square meters) and population (463 million).
The foreign trade of ECO member states currently stands at more than $845 billion per year.
ECO member states include Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Northern Cyprus acts as an observer state.
