H1 Goods Transit Through Iran Sees 2% Growth
EghtesadOnline: Close to 4.95 million tons of oil and non-oil commodities were transited through Iran during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21-Sept. 22) to register a 2% rise compared with the corresponding period of last year.
According to Director General of Hormozgan Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization Daryoush Baqer-Javan, more than 1.46 million tons of commodities were transited from Shahid Rajaee Port in the city of Bandar Abbas in the southern Hormozgan Province during the six-month period, which accounted for close to 30% of the transit goods.
The port was the most active point of entry among the country’s 32 border terminals during the period, the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development reported.
The main transit commodities were fuel, chemicals, construction materials, home appliances and cotton, Financial Tribune reported.
Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Uzbekistan and Turkey were the main destinations for transit goods passing through Iran.
Shahid Rajaee Port was followed by the border terminals of Parviz Khan in Kermanshah, Bashmaq in Kurdestan, Bazargan in West Azarbaijan and Shahid Bahonar Port in Hormozgan.
The five border checkpoints accounted for 73% of all goods transited through the country during the period.
Located 23 kilometers west of the port city of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan Province, Shahid Rajaee Port is Iran’s biggest container port at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz.
Over half of Iran’s commercial trading is carried out at Shahid Rajaee Port that also accounts for over 85% of all container throughput in the country.
More than 37.67 million tons of commodities were loaded and unloaded in the southern Hormozgan Province’s Shahid Rajaee Port in H1, registering an 11.4% decrease compared with the similar period of last year.
Non-oil goods accounted for 25.16 million tons and oil products for 12.51 million tons of the total, showing an 11.7% and 10.7% fall respectively year-on-year.
Container loading and unloading stood at 956,334 TEUs, indicating a 29.85% decrease over the six-month period compared with the corresponding period of the preceding year.
