Dams Half Full
EghtesadOnline: Water stored in dams across Iran has reached 26.63 billion cubic meters, which is 1% less than the same time last year, the Energy Ministry news portal Paven reported.
Overall capacity of dams is 50.5 billion cubic meters and data show 53% storage levels. Since the beginning of the current water year (Sept 2020), 10.61 billion cubic meters entered – down 10% compared to the same period a year ago.
First four months of the last water year saw 11.78 billion cubic meters of inflow into the huge structures. Since last September 85.5 mm of rain fell in Iran, which was 40% less compared to the same period in the previous water year.
Iran has been battling drought for decades because of declining rainfall, rising temperatures, old and inefficient farming practices, excessive consumption in metropolises and poor water management.
