IRICA: 523% Increase in Drug Confiscations

EghtesadOnline: Drug seizures by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration over the first quarter of the current year (March 21-June 21) increased by 523% compared with the same period of last year.

According to Rouhollah Latifi, the spokesperson of the administration, IRICA disrupted the trafficking of 117,329 grams of opium, 5,996 grams of methamphetamine, 140,447 grams of heroin, 8,400 grams of hashish, 1,578 grams of cannabis seeds and 1,407 grams of various opioid pills during the three-month period. 

“A total of 10,750 kilograms of red phosphorus, which is used in the production of methamphetamine, hidden in a sugar shipment heading for Afghanistan were confiscated by Dogharoun Customs in Khorasan Razavi Province. Moreover, 13,800 grams of ketamine were seized at Imam Khomeini Airport’s Customs Terminal,” Latifi was quoted as saying by IRNA.
