During the meeting, Habibollah-Zadeh outlined Iran’s plans to develop ports and highlighted the country’s position in North-South commercial transport corridor.
Kitack Lim, for his part, referred to Iran’s strategic position in western Asia and its potential in maritime transport, reports ISNA.
He expressed the IMO’s readiness for boosting bilateral ties with Iran.
“The IMO is ready to hold training workshops and seminars on maritime environment in Iran,” he said.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO), known as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization (IMCO) until 1982, is responsible for regulating shipping. The IMO was established in Geneva in 1948 and came into force ten years later, meeting for the first time in 1959. Headquartered in London, United Kingdom the IMO has 171 Member States and three Associate Members.
