Spokesman: JCPOA not limiting Iran's defensive programs

EghtesadOnline: The nuclear agreement is not curbing Iran's missile and defense activities, said the government spokesman on Tuesday.

'It was a wrong assumption that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) would limit Iran's missile program and defensive activities,' Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said in a press conference, emphasizing that the agreement has merely to do with nuclear issues.

'Missile programs are irreversible policies and we defend them,' IRNA quoted him as saying.

Pointing to the missile attack of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) on Daesh ( the ISIS terrorist group) in Syria, he said that the government supports such moves in accordance with the deterrence doctrine.

“The President (Hassan Rouhani) expressed the government's view in the clearest way that it would support all the IRGC's missile activities, with no reservation regarding the defensive capacity and missile power,” the government spokesman said.

“Iran is not to compromise on its defense capability with any greedy foreign states, particularly the US,” Nobakht reiterated.

Our national security is by no means disturbing our neighbors' national security, he said.
