“We should not allow just a single country damage the nuclear deal arbitrarily while it was made by the efforts of seven countries and is an international agreement,” President Rouhani said in a meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in New York.
According to IRNA, the meeting was held on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General assembly.
President Rouhani stressed that eight reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), have confirmed that Iran has always been in compliance with the historic deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of action) and implemented its commitments.
Iran and members of the Group 5+1 (US, Britain, Russia, France and China plus Germany) signed a historic nuclear agreement in July 2015 which is also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The deal’s implementation started officially since January 2016.
“We will never start violating the deal and the other parties will hopefully adhere to their legal and ethical commitments,” President Rouhani said.
As for Tehran-Tokyo relations, President Rouhani said that there are numerous areas for cooperation between the two capitals.
“Tehran welcomes development of all-out cooperation with Tokyo”.
Japan can take part in Iran’s various sectors including oil and gas, environment, solving the problem of air prolusion, tourism scientific, technological and petrochemical activities as well as development of ports in the country, he said.
Development of southern ports including Chabahar in southeastern Iran, will play crucial role in promoting Tehran-Tokyo relations and Japanese investors can invest in development of ports and rail network, Rouhani said.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the president singled out stability and security in eastern Asia as significant, saying, “We are opposed to any type of arms race in eastern Asia and we favor peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula.”
Stressing the need for attempts to establish peace in eastern Asia, he said that mass destruction weapons are dangerous for the entire world and Iran is against nuclear weapons and against posing any threat using them.
Iran will spare no effort in line with promoting stability and security in the region, Rouhani said.
He also expressed concern over displacement of over 400,000 Muslims in Myanmar, saying that Japan’s pressure on the government of Myanmar and aiding the refugees can help relieve their sufferings.
Meanwhile, the Japanese prime minister, for his part, reaffirmed Tokyo’s support for the nuclear deal.
He said that Iran serves as a pivot country in the Middle East and Japan urges all parties to remain in compliance with the deal.
Tokyo is keen on promoting ties with Tehran in all fields.
Noting that Iran-Japan cooperation had good progress in the fields of medicine and environment, he said that his country is ready for further enhancement of relations in cultural, social and tourism arenas.
Abe hoped he would visit Tehran in an opportune time in the future.
