Chitchian made the remarks in a meeting with members of the UK companies active in water industry, IRNA reports.

During next five years, at least $12 billion will be invested in Iran's water and wastewater areas, Chitchian said.

The international conditions have prepared the ground for Iran to have active and growing relations with the British companies, he added.

Due to decrease in rainfall in Iran in past 15 years, the country needs considerable investment in water industry, Chitchian stressed.

Despite all that, Iran has taken very good measures to provide water for the nation as one hundred percent of the people living in the Iranian cities enjoy safe drinking water, he noted.

He further stressed importance of following up the issue of water management.

Also, the number of directors of the UK companies expressed readiness to cooperate with the Iranian Ministry of Energy implementing its projects.

Chitchian arrived in London Monday evening on a three-day visit at the invitation of his British counterpart.
