Iranian cultural official, Pope Francis meet in Vatican

EghtesadOnline: Visiting Director of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman held talks with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Wednesday.

Ebrahimi Torkaman, heading a delegation, is in Rome to attend the 10th round of religious dialogue between Iran and Vatican, inaugurated on Nov 22. 

The pontiff underscored that he feels very close to the Iranian rich culture and civilization, IRNA reported. 

Pope also praised Ebrahimi Torkaman for his endeavors aimed at holding negotiations between Muslims and Christians. 

Touching upon the travel of the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Vatican, Pope expressed his satisfaction over the visit.

On Jan 26, 2016, President Rouhani held a meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican and the two sides brought about common spiritual values and highlighted the good state of relations between the Holy See and Iran.

Ebrahimi Torkaman, for his part, stressed that the 10th round of religious dialogue between Iran and Vatican is a great opportunity to foster mutual cooperation aimed at establishing peace and tranquility in the world.

During the two-day meeting Muslim and Christian scholars presented their papers entitled 'Extremism and violence in the name of religion; the reasons of the supporters and perpetrators; Catholic perspective / Islamic perspective', and 'Rational approach to religion: the sign of hope for wounded humanity; Catholic perspective / Islamic perspective', and 'Humanity and its common home; the contribution of religion for having a better world; Catholic perspective / Islamic perspective'.
