Tehran hosts Iran-Turkey political consultations committee

EghtesadOnline: Iranian deputy foreign minister for Asia-Pacific affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour held talks with his visiting Turkish counterpart Sedat Onal on Monday.

The meeting was held in the framework of political consultations committee between the two countries.

Touching upon the two countries cultural, historical and religious commonalities, the two sides called for bolstering mutual cooperation in cultural, political, security as well as economic areas, according to ISNA.

Rahimpour also congratulated Onal on holding Turkey’s constitutional referendum successfully; stressing that Iran attaches great importance to the Turkish people decisions.

He added both Iran and Turkey are considered as important countries in the region, underlying that expansion of mutual ties would pave the way for settling regional issues.

Holding joint economic commission in Tehran, fostering cooperation in tackling terrorism and human trafficking were among other issues discussed during the meeting.

Onal, for his part, congratulated President Hassan Rouhanis re-election as Iran’s president, underlying that what happened in Iran was a manifestation of democracy.

The Turkish official said people's high turnout indicated that the Iranian nation is determined to decide on its own fate.
