CRA Official to Attend India Meeting

EghtesadOnline: Telecom regulators of 23 countries from the Asia-Pacific will meet in Delhi this month to discuss challenges in framing rules for digital ecosystem and regional roaming, among others.

From Iran, the Communications Regulatory Authority of the Islamic Republic of Iran (CRA), the country’s telecoms ombudsman is sending its international director, Alireza Darvishi to the event, according to a press release by the CRA.

Regulatory heads of Australia, Afghanistan, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vanuatu, Fiji are also slated to attend, Business Standard originally reported on Saturday.

“There is going to be very good discussion on evolving regulatory framework in the digital world. It is also going to discuss issues of regional importance like some of the regulators have told us that they would like to discuss the roaming issue,” Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Chairman R S Sharma told reporters.

In addition, according to Financial Tribune, India’s telecom minister and chairman of that country’s telecoms overseeing agency, Manoj Sinha, will inaugurate a roundtable on August 21 that is jointly organized by the International Telecom Union.

“Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) chairman will launch the two-day regulators training program. [Overall] this will be a 5-day program,” Sharma said.
