Share of Global Flower Market Meager

EghtesadOnline: The global market for ornamental plants and flowers is worth a remarkable $20 billion per year, though Iran accounted for only $24 million of it in the last Iranian year (ended March 20, 2017), the director general of the Greenhouses, Medicinal Plants and Edible Mushrooms Affairs Office with the Ministry of Agriculture said.

Gholamreza Taqavi added that currently 6,500 hectares of land are under the cultivation of ornamental plants and flowers in Iran.

“The business has created 30,000 direct and around 90,000 indirect jobs across the country,” the official was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Per capita flower consumption in Iran amounts to 18 stems in contrast to the global average of 150, according to Financial Tribune.
