Beef Supplies Sufficient, Sales Low
EghtesadOnline: Beef supply in the domestic market is sufficient but due to people’s low purchasing power, the sales are low, the head of Beef Sellers Union said.
“The stocks are full and there is no shortage in the market,” Ali Khandanru-Javan was also quoted as saying by ILNA.
Beef is currently sold at 420,000 rials ($9) per kilogram. The official added that beef is not import at present, adding that the southern Sistan-Baluchestan Province is the main supplier of beef in the country, Financial Tribune reported.
In 2017, Iran’s beef production experienced a 5% increase to reach 205,000 tons. Imports amounted to 127,000 tons, as exports stood at 5,000 tons, Tasnim News Agency reported citing the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
